What Askhawk reads and keeps

Written from the code, not from a template. If something here does not match what you see, that is a bug and we want to hear about it.

What it reads

Askhawk reads posts that are already public: forum threads, marketplace briefs, issue trackers, public social posts and the pages you point it at. It never signs in as you, and it never reads a private message, a closed group you are not in, or anything behind a password.

For each post it keeps the text, the title, the author name as the site shows it, the link, the time it was posted and the language. That is what a person reading the same page would see.

The browser extension

Some sites turn servers away but answer a person. The extension reads those pages in your own browser, as you.

It looks at posts you scroll past on the sites you allow, and it checks each one against a list of phrases on your machine first. A post that does not look like somebody asking for work never leaves the browser. When one does match, it sends the post text, the author name, the link, the time label, the answer count and the address of the page it was on, to your Askhawk and nowhere else. It does not read your messages, your notifications, your profile or any page you have not allowed, and it has no account of its own.

  • Filtered on your machine before anything is sent
  • Sends to the address you set, which is your own server when you self host
  • Turn it off from the toolbar at any time

Business contact details

When you search a map for businesses, Askhawk reads each one's own website and records what it publishes there: the business name, address, phone, email and social links it puts on its own contact page, and what is broken about the site. These are business details a company published to be contacted on. They are yours to export and yours to delete, and deleting a list deletes them.

What we do not do

We do not sell or share your leads, your searches or your lists. We do not build a profile of the people who posted. We do not train a model on your data.

One workspace can never read another's. Every request is scoped to the workspace it came from, and that is checked on every endpoint.

Asking for your data, or its removal

Your leads, lists and messages are yours. Export them from the screen they live on, or delete them there. Deleting a workspace deletes everything in it.

If you are someone whose public post was read and you want it removed, write to us with the link and we will delete the post and anything derived from it.
